Cravings
During my first trimester I didn't have morning sickness or any crazy cravings. I did want hamburgers and lemonade a lot in the first and second trimester as well as bagels with cream cheese. Lately all I have wanted is sweets. Baked goods have always been my weakness. When I am really stressed I want all the chewy candy (Twizzlers, Starburst, Laffy Taffy, Chew SweetTarts, etc.). Studies show that chewing gum may relieve anxiety so I guess that makes sense.
I would say sweets are my biggest deterrent to getting fit. I eat sweets everyday. I have tried healthy alternatives but they don't fill the void and if anything make my cravings for baked goods even worse. I also have a really hard time with self control. I can't have just 1 brownie or cookie or a few pieces of candy. I have to eat the whole package.
I am thinking of getting a lock box for sweets/junk food to see if it helps with this issue. I think it would be useful as long as I don't go to the store to buy something while I am locked out of the box. What do you think? Has anyone tried these boxes for health related issues?
Here is a really interesting article on Food Reinforcement and Eating but of course more research is needed...
